The LEED for homes program was developed by the US Green Building Council from local and national industry leaders. It is a voluntary initiative promoting the transformation of the mainstream building industry toward more sustainable building practices. The LEED for homes program is a tool for builders, homeowners and local government. LEED encourages environmentally sound, healthy and resource efficient places to live.
Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all to save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) is the most recognized affiliation on a state level. The FGBC is a nonprofit Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Their mission is "to provide a statewide green building program that defines, promotes, and encourages sustainable efforts with environmental and economic benefits."
The National Association of Home Builders “Green Program” was initiated by the NAHB to meet the needs of home builders in a changing building environment. The NAHB Green Program published the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines in 2005 as a resource to both home builders and home owners.
